Immacolata Amodeo, Professor of Literature at Jacobs University

Jacobs professor Immacolata Amodeo has been appointed Secretary General of Villa Vigoni, the renowned German-Italian Center for European Excellence in Loveno di Menaggio on Lake Como.

In her new role she will be overseeing the operative side of Villa Vigoni, its annual program of conferences and events and Villa Vigoni’s relations with various German, Italian and international academic, political and cultural institutions and partners.

The position is one of great repute and major importance in maintaining and extending relations between Italy and Germany in the areas of science, education, politics and culture.

Prof. Amodeo has been nominated by the Italian Foreign Ministry and the Federal Ministry of Education and Research and voted for by the general assembly of Villa Vigoni.

She has taken up her new position at the beginning of the month for a period of four years, but will still remain a professor at Jacobs University and continue to supervise her PhD students. However, for the time being, she has put her active teaching on campus on hold.

Prof. Amodeo has been Professor of Literature at Jacobs University since 2004. Her research foci encompass: German and Italian literature from the 16th to the 21st century; comparative media studies; literary and cultural theory; intercultural and transcultural studies; literature in relation to other media (especially opera, music, and film); multilingualism and literature as well as migration and literature.

At Jacobs University she has been instrumental in organizing the globale° – Festival for Cross-Border Literature, an annual series of readings, workshops and talks with authors from multilingual and migrant backgrounds, which is taking place in media partnership with Radio Bremen.
