Scholarship Days 2012
The Jacobs Scholarships for Global Understanding was first given out in 2011.

From July 1-3, top German applicants will be chosen for a special scholarship offer: “The Jacobs Scholarships for Global Understanding”.

June 22, 2012

The Jacobs Scholarships for Global Understanding -given out for the first time in 2011 - are especially for outstanding German applicants. The top 40 German applicants to Jacobs University are invited to campus for a three-day event, during which their personal, social and academic performance will be assessed by the Jacobs Scholarship Committee. The committee consists of external business representatives and members of the staff, faculty, and alumni.

Amongst the external representatives who will join the committee are guests from companies such as Kraft Foods, KPMG, Flughafen Bremen, NORDMETALL Stiftung, and Deutsche Telekom AG. “The business representatives’ expertise is very valuable for the selection process”, explains Anna Boyd, the organizer of the Scholarship Days. “Their knowledge is important to understand whether or not the candidates have the potential to grow into future global leaders.” The candidates will attend a personal interview with the Scholarship Committee, as well as prepare a group presentation and take an institutional written test in English. They will also be able to get a first glimpse of campus life by living in the dorms, joining campus and library tours, attending mock lectures, and participating in social events. Last year’s event was regarded as highly successful both by the candidates and the committee. The candidates enjoyed getting to know the university from a student’s perspective, living on campus and working in teams with other applicants. Naomi Pentrel, one of last year’s candidates, said “It was the first time that I was together with multiple people who were a lot like me in their ambitions.”
