Multicultural campus life: Catering for Ramadan
It’s the start of the Muslim fasting month of Ramadan today. For the next 30 days, more than one billion Muslims around the will observe the holiest month in Islam by fasting from dawn to dusk. This is also the case on the Jacobs University campus. As one of the most diverse universities worldwide, we make sure to cater for the needs of our Muslim students and staff during Ramadan.
July 20, 2012Jacobs University’s caterer Apetito provides entire take-away meals to be heated up in the microwave and increases its range of products with a focus on take-away food.
During Ramadan a third main dish is offered for dinner instead of the usual two during the summer. These dishes can be taken away to be consumed after sunset. Halal meals, sucuk, cold cuts, juice, yoghurt and sweets will also be available for take-away. There’s is also the possibility to fill disposable salad bowls.
The importance of mutual respect and understanding of the many cultures that come together on our campus is at the core of the Jacobs spirit. Thus, the special offers during Ramadan are both a service for our Muslim community as well as an opportunity for everybody else to gain first-hand experience of another religion’s practices.
The special services mentioned above will be available until the end of Ramadan on August 18.
