Extending DAAD Scholarships

Students currently receiving a scholarship from the German Academic Exchange Service (DAAD) and interested in renewing their scholarship should note the following information.

You may apply for an extension if your scholarship was awarded for a period of more than six months. The maximum period for which extensions are granted is one year, but subsequent extensions for further periods of one year are possible. This is of particular relevance to scholarship holders whose declared intention is to take a doctorate in Germany and who are supposed to take on posts in higher education or research when they return to their own countries.

It is not possible to extend:

  • Scholarships awarded to run for a period of up to six months;

  • Scholarships with a note precluding extension in the Letter of Award.

If you want to apply for an extension, the procedure is as follows:

  • Obtain the DAAD Extensions Application Form from the Academic Affairs Office, RLH 211

  • Fill it in and return it with additional necessary documents.

The deadlines for returning the completed application form and the additional required documents to the Academic Affairs Office are:

  • April 22nd for scholarships ending between July and February;

  • November 5th for scholarships ending between July and February.
