Success at national student science competition

Together with Matthias Görner IUB undergraduate Felix Krahmer won great honors at the recent German Youth Science Fair "Jugend forscht."

[ Jun 07, 2002]  The two students had already won Bremen's state-wide competition in April. This past month they went on to national competition in Darmstadt, where they took 3rd prize, placing their work among the best student research projects in mathematics and computer science from all over Germany. According to reports from the jury the general level of contributions in this field was particularly high this year, and the competition was accordingly tough.

The two students also won an invitation to a prestigious summer camp in the United States, which is attended by two of the best students from each of the states in the US.

Felix is a first year student in mathematics at IUB, while Matthias has applied to study mathematics at IUB starting this fall. Project advisor was IUB professor Dierk Schleicher who expressed his warm congratulations to the two students and confided that his chief role was to convince the two young mathematicians that they were in fact capable of successfully competing.

Those interested in details of their work (having to do with integration of mathematical functions) may contact Felix at the following address: f.krahmer@iu-bremen.de.
