[ Jul 12, 2003]  On 1 July 2003 Professor Max Kaase, vice president and dean of the School of Humanities and Social Sciences, was elected president of the International Political Science Association (IPSA). The election took place during the 19th IPSA World Congress in Durban, South Afrika.

Since 1998 Max Kaase has played an active role within this world association of political scientists, first as a member of the IPSA Executive Committee and then (2000) as first vice president. He also chairs the Committee for Research and Training. In this function, Professor Kaase and his colleagues took action to facilitate the cooperation between the different IPSA Committees and provide them with additional resources for their work. Max Kaase is the second German to assume the presidency of the IPSA, which was founded in 1949.

International Political Science Association
IPSA was founded in 1949 under UNESCO sponsorship. Since then national political science associations have constituted its core. Its founding members were, indeed, national associations, and included American, Canadian, French and Indian political science associations.
