"Club zu Bremen" visits IUB

[ May 11, 2001]  The distinguished Bremen society "Club zu Bremen", first founded in 1783 as the "Gesellschaft Museum", visited IUB on May 9, 2001.

Approximately 120 members of the "Club zu Bremen" (including the Chairman, Friedrich Wilhelm Bracht) listened to a presentation from Dr. Fritz Schaumann, IUB President, in the recently refurbished lecture hall. The presentation consisted of an overview of the planning and current developments at IUB including the construction progress, faculty recruitment, and student marketing. His speech was followed by three short presentations, by Professor R.O. Wells, Ms. Andrea Gavriel and Dr. Hans Giesecke. Prof. Wells discussed the academic program, faculty recruitment, interviews, and the research program. Ms. Gavriel provided an overview of the current fund raising activities, and Dr. Giesecke talked about the student recruitment process. He provided interesting portraits of three students who will be part of IUB's first class.

The visit was concluded by a comprehensive tour of the campus (which is currently under heavy construction in preparation for the Opening of IUB on September 3, 2001). The tour provided the visitors with an opportunity to view the Campus Center, the faculty club and guesthouse, as well as the first residential college, the Alfried Krupp-College, and the Research Quadrangle. Beautiful weather helped to make the campus tour even more enjoyable and impressive.

Many questions of the participants were answered. The members of the "Club zu Bremen" left IUB Campus enthusiastic about the idea, the realisation and the progress of IUB. We are all looking forward to further visits and a long term cooperation between "Club zu Bremen" and IUB.
