Reception for scholarship contributors and recipients

An official reception was held for scholarship contributors and recipients on 3 December in the Faculty Club at IUB .

[ Dec 03, 2001]  President Schaumann and Prof. Dr. Bernd-Artin Wessels, managing partner of the firm Scipio GmbH and a scholarship contributor, gave short presentations. Katsiaryna Barshchynskaya, student from Byelorussia, shared her thanks for the contributors‘ support on behalf of all scholarship recipients.

The fund-raising campaign “One Hundred Scholarships for IUB,” introduced this past summer, addressed members of the public in and around Bremen. Today, 31 of the pledged scholarships of 15,000 EUR each were awarded. The remaining 60 pledged scholarships will be deposited in a scholarship fund for future years.

Both merit-based as well as need-based scholarships were awarded. Some scholarships are directed to recipients from a specific country or in a specific subject area.

The scholarship contributors consist of individuals and business people, foundations, and honorary consuls in Bremen, Hamburg and Niedersachsen. A total of 19 scholarships will be awarded to students from eastern Europe, five to students from Asia, four to German students, and two to students from South America. Once scholarship was awarded to a student from Zambia. Twenty-one scholarships are in the fields of science and engineering, and ten in the humanities and social sciences.
