“Es wurde musiziert” - Mozart in the Interfaith House

   

The project choir Cum Laude, under the direction of Jürgen Blendermann, together with guest soloists and the Chamber Orchestra of Bremen-Nord performed works of Mozart, including the “Coronation” Mass (KV 317) and the “Jupitor” Symphony (KV 551).

[ Jan 03, 2002]  The beginning of the new year at International University Bremen was auspiciously celebrated with a New Year's Day concert in the Interfaith House, which included two popular works by by W. A. Mozart.

The 75-member choir Cum Laude, a project of the Choir Workshop St. Michael in Bremen-Grohn, along with a good 600 guests filled the small chapel on the campus grounds for two sold-out New Year's Day performances.

Guest soloists included soprano Susan Khalili, alto Gabriele Banko von Breitenbach, tenor Johannes Luig, and bass Johannes-Michael Blume. The chorus was accompanied by the Chamber Orchestra of Bremen-Nord, Silke Mundt concertmaster.

Two shorter works, Laudate Dominum (KV 339) and Kyrie (KV 90), were also performed.

The choir, which includes several IUB staff and faculty members, was organized by Jürgen Blendermann, choir director of St. Michael's Church Grohn. The concert was supported by Chorwerkstatt St. Michael, the Sparkasse Bremen, and CLAVIS Musikhaus, who recorded the performances.

Planned for the spring semester is a gospel mass. Rehearsals to begin in early February.
