U.S. Ambassador visits campus

   

U.S. Ambassador to Germany, Daniel R. Coats, visited IUB this past week.

[ Sep 06, 2002]  The Ambassador was in Bremen as the guest of honor at the Bremer Kapitänstag (Captain's Day), the traditional gathering of ship's captains and pilots.

Ambassador Coats met briefly with administration and faculty members and was escorted by university President Schaumann on a tour of the campus. He greeted staff and students along the way before returning to Bremen where he was to be the guest of honor and invited speaker at the annual Captain's Day evening banquet.

Daniel R. Coats was sworn in as U.S. Ambassador to the Federal Republic of Germany on August 15th, 2001. A former member of the U.S. Congress, he represented the state of Indiana in the U.S. Senate from 1989 to 1999, and in the U.S. House of Representatives from 1981 to 1988.
