INTERNATIONAL UNIVERSITY BREMEN

Crossing borders? Conference on inter- and transdisciplinarity in theory and practice.

On October 22–24 the second conference organised by the Graduate Student Association (GSA) took place at IUB. Eleven conference speakers examined the opportunities, challenges and borders of transdisciplinary research. Inter- and transdisciplinarity have become fashionable catchphrases. What concepts lie beneath these buzzwords and what are the limits of border-crossing?

[ Oct 20, 2004]  During the three conference days graduate students from IUB and four other universities presented the transdisciplinary approaches of their research in engineering, science and humanities. These short lectures comprised projects from the areas of literature and culture, politics and sociology, cell- and marine biology as well as art history and theory. All talks were held in English.

With this conference the organizers aimed to facilitate active scientific exchange between different fields of study. Students, professors and the interested public were invited to attend this conference. The conference, located in IUB’s „Research IV“ building, began on Friday at 2 p.m. and wrapped up at 1.30 p.m. Sunday.
