Student wins first place in regional science competition

First-year student Felix Krahmer awarded 1st prize in the area of mathematics and computer science in regional Jugend forscht (Youth Research) competition.

[ Mar 12, 2002]  IUB student Felix Krahmer (20), along with his team partner Matthias Goerner (19), took first place last week at the state level of the Jugend forscht science and research competition. They will go on to represent the State of Bremen at the national level at the end of May in Darmstadt.

The competition is open to German high school students, including those in their first semester of college study, and is held at three levels: regional, state, and national. In the case of the state of Bremen the regional and state competitions are combined. This year's state competition saw a record number of participants.

IUB mathematics professor Dierk Schleicher, who served as advisor to the team, reported that the two students are now preparing for the national tournament. He added that their research project has great potential for success on the national level and that he hopes to report an even greater victory at the end of May. Title of the team's project: Integration ist keine Kunst - or loosely translated: "Integration is a piece of cake."
