[ Nov 25, 2006]  The Jacobs Foundation, established by Klaus J. Jacobs in 1988 as a private philanthropic organization, is contributing 10 million Swiss franks to fund the new center.

The new Jacobs Center will focus on research and teaching in the areas of lifelong learning and institutional change. The new center will address issues of successful career development, decision-making in life, and the creation of social institutions that address such challenges.

Professorships in the fields of lifespan developmental psychology, human resource development, educational science, and knowledge engineering are planned.

The Jacobs Center will also offer seminars and training to professionals seeking to further advance their career development opportunities. Such workshops and seminar programs are expected to provide the center with financial support in the long term.

IUB was selected by the foundation chairman, Klaus J. Jacobs himself, who has been a supporter of the university from the very beginning.
