INTERNATIONAL UNIVERSITY BREMEN

Mathematical Seminar at IUB

On May 28 & 29 a joint seminar “Transformation Groups & Mathematical Physics” takes place at IUB. The subject of the seminar is modern Lie theory, a flourishing area in contemporary mathematics and mathematical physics which finds its roots in the works of Sophus Lie on systems of differential equations.

[ May 27, 2005]  The organisers from IUB and the universities of Bochum, Darmstadt, Hamburg and Wuppertal invited senior mathematicians from all over the world. The seminar on transformation groups and mathematical physics is designed to keep the mathematics society informed about ideas under development.

The current meeting will discuss some core problems in Lie theory (generalized Harish-Chandra modules, representations of Lie algebras in characteristic p, etc.). It will touch as well upon the connections between Lie theory and some other important areas such as harmonic analysis, differential geometry and mathematical physics.

The lectures offer graduate students the opportunity to meet with the leading researchers in the field.
