IUB Freshmen from 55 Nations

For the academic year 2005 / 2006, IUB welcomes 300 new students on campus. At IUB, the semester starts on September 1. This year’s 200 Bachelor's and 100 Master's and PhD students hail from 55 nations. Beginning this September more than 930 Bachelor’s, Master’s, and PhD students will be studying at IUB.

[ Aug 29, 2005]  The number of applications is on the increase: studying at IUB is becoming very popular. This year, about 1000 students applied for the Bachelor's study program. IUB is also delighted about the significant increase in applications from Germany, North America, Asia and Western Europe. More than 30% more applications came from these regions. The strong interest in studying at IUB shows a positive impact: the overall proficiency level has been further increased.

A prerequisite for applying to IUB is the Scholastic Assessment Test (SAT). The average results of the SAT show that IUB students are on the same level as students from top American universities. For a young institution like IUB this is a great achievement. The number of places for a bachelor's study is limited to 200.

Reasons for studying at IUB are diverse. Most students mentioned the following aspects that influenced their decision:

* Internationality with respect to student body and faculty
* English as the language of research and instruction
* Selection based on academic and personal achievement (need blind admission)
* Bachelor's degree after three years instead of four (like in the US)
* Living and studying at a campus university
* Substantial scholarship and financial aid for all students

Orientation week for new students
Every year, an orientation week is held for new students. From August 29 to September 2 students are introduced to different aspects of university life at IUB. A big welcoming barbeque will take place on Wednesday, August 31 when students, professors, host families, friends, neighbours and employees celebrate the beginning of the semester.

Further information on the Orientation Week you can find under: Orientation Week
