Laboratory Complex for Behavioral and Social Sciences at IUB

On Thursday, October 27th, IUB celebrated the Opening of Laboratory III. What is special about the new lab complex: The over 100 rooms, equipped with newest technology, are available to behavioural and social scientists of IUB – across all disciplines.

[ Oct 26, 2005]  In this way, communication scientists, neuroscientists, psychologists and sociologists, for example, can make use of the different rooms according to their needs. The spectrum of the research labs is large. The building hosts computer test labs, multimedia labs, interview labs, monitoring labs, psychophysiological labs, eye movement tracking labs, language and behavior analysis labs and labs which are used to test the physical fitness of test persons.

Around 50 guests from the areas of politics and science attended the opening ceremony. IUB President Dr. Fritz Schaumann and the Deans of the School of Humanities and Social Sciences as well as of the Jacobs Center for Lifelong Learning and Institutional Development, Prof. Dr. Max Kaase and Prof. Dr. Ursula M. Staudinger, greeted the guests in the Conference Hall of the IUB Campus Center. Examples of the research which is being conducted in the new building was presented by the professors Dr. Adele Diederich, Professor of Psychology, and Dr. Ben Godde, Professor of Neurosciences and Human Performance. Professor Diederich is researching the modelling and experimental examination in decision making theory and perception. Professor Godde is engaged in research on questions about the connections between physical and mental performance.

The new lab has been in operation since mid-2005. 16 professors in the fields of communication science, neuroscience, psychology and sociology are using the 1.200 square meters of new lab space. The laboratory complex enables internationally competitive empirical and experimental research and teaching. IUB students can learn the use of the complex research equipment and can also use the lab for research projects.
