Bilingual Lecture by Spanish Artist Nicolás Melini

In cooperation with Instituto Cervantes, IUB cordially invites you to meet Spanish artist Nicolás Melini on January 27, 8 p.m. The artist will present his works in an exciting bilingual (Spanish/German) cultural evening.

[ Jan 25, 2006]  The film maker and author will read from his latest book, "Hijo - Sohn", which was made into a movie in 2005. Nicolás Melini will speak about the origins of his works, his evolution from poet and writer to film maker and how he transports his poetry in his movies.

The artist was born in Santa Cruz/La Palma in 1969. He has written several narratives (Historia sin cariño de Remedios Quiero Besarte, 1999; Cuaderno de mis mayores, 2002), novels (El futbolista asesino, 2000; La sangre, la luz, el violoncelo, 2005) and poems (Cuadros de Hopper, 2002; Adonde marchaba, 2004.

Melini has also authored a number of movie scripts (initially for other directors) and has recently received much attention for two film lets directed by him: Mirar es un pecado and Hijo. Hence, it comes as no surprise that he is quoted as saying " Good movies ...". He has won several awards at the 32nd Festival de Cine de Alcalá de Henares and the V. Edición del Festival de Cortometrajes del C.E.C.C., Barcelona.

The lecture will take place in the Common Room of Mercator College.
