Lafayette Students Visit IUB

From 27 January until 2 June IUB will be home to six visiting students from Lafayette College and two exchange students from Rice University. Lafayette's second year Chemistry and Biochemistry students are accompanied by Chemical Engineering Professor Dr. Memet Uz.

[ Jan 30, 2006]  While the exchange with Rice University exists since 2003, it is only the second visit by Lafayette College. Exchange and visiting programs are an integral part of the Lafayette undergraduate program. IUB was chosen as a partner in this program because of its focus on internationality, its location in the heart of Europe, the simularities in the curriculum, and English as language of instruction. The students are not here on vacation however. In addition to their regular course load, Lafayette's visiting professor Dr. Uz will offer courses on Ethics and Thermo-dynamics. A course on German Politics and Culture by Dr Antonia Gohr and Franziska Deutsch as well as German language courses will provide the visiting students with insights on a new cultural background.

"This program is of benefit, not only to Lafayette students in order to experience another culture as part of their education, but also to IUB students who have an opportunity to meet students from a similiar institution in America." says Dr. Antonia Gohr from IUB's Office of Academic Affairs.

IUB welcomes the Lafayette group and wishes them an exciting and informative semester here in Bremen!

Lafayette College, established in 1826, is located in Pennsylvania, just 70 miles west of New York. Named after the French hero of the American Revolution, the Marquis de Lafayette, the college is home to more than 2300 students, and like IUB is a residential institution. Lafayette offers BAs in 32 fields and Bscs in 9 fields. When the college was opened in 1832, 43 students studied the classics and mathematics.
