More questions to be answered: IUB children's university lectures continue in March

"Why are there quarrels and wars?" This is the opening question of this year's children's university, asked by a nine-year-old girl. After two successful "Kinder-Uni" seasons in 2005, IUB offers a 2006 spring season with four new German language lectures, again twice daily. The series begins March 8.

[ Feb 15, 2006]
In January, IUB called on school children aged between 7 and 11 years to submit questions to be answered by the Kinder-Uni. More than 150 e-mails and about 250 questions reached IUB. Some of the e-mails were submitted by whole school classes.

These four lecture topics were chosen from the submitted pool of questions :

8 March 2006: »Why are there quarrels and wars?« by Sina, 9 years old
Brendan Dooley, Professor of History | Alexander Lerchl, Professor of Biology

15 March 2006: »How do planets evolve?« by Lukas, 8 years old
Antje Boetius, Professor of Microbiology | Elke Rödiger, Research Associate in Astrophysics

22 March 2006: »Where does electricity come from?« by Leon, 6 years old
Wolfgang Pfaffenberger, Professor of Economics | Günther Zupanc, Professor of Neurobiology

29 March 2006: »Why do we feel pain?« by Ronja, 12 years
Klaudia Brix, Professor of Cell Biology | Arvid Kappas, Professor of Psychology

All lectures will start at 3 p.m. and 5 p.m. respectively.
