Fritz Schaumann elected as new president of the Kunststiftung NRW

   

On March 8, 2006, IUB president Fritz Schaumann was elected as president of the "Foundation of Arts of the state of North Rhine-Westphalia (Kunststiftung NRW)" by the foundation’s board of trustees. With its decision the board followed the recommendation of the North Rhine-Westphalian prime minister Jürgen Rüttgers and the state secretary Hans-Heinrich Grosse-Brockhoff.

[ Mar 09, 2006]  Dr. Fritz Schauman, who will step down from his office as IUB president on July 1, will be serving his new office for the next five years. Prime minister Jürgen Rüttgers praised the board’s decision to win over and choose a renowned expert and politician in science and education as very beneficial not only for the foundation but also for the state of North Rhine-Westphalia.

Schaumann has been committed to furthering arts and culture for many years. An expert and politician in the field of higher education he was a member of the North Rhine Westphalian parliament from 1985 to 1988. From 1988 to 1998 he was state secretary of the Federal Ministry of Education and Research. Subsequently he became the president of IUB, founded in February 1999, a position he will hold until June 30, 2006. Fritz Schaumann lives in the North Rhine Westphalian city of Rheinberg-Orsoy with his family. The Foundation of Arts of the state of North Rhine-Westphalia has a yearly budget of about 10 million euros and in 2005 supported more than 370 projects in all lines of art.
