[ Apr 27, 2006]  The Lions Campus Club of IUB had called for applications to participate in the exhibition from young artists in Germany under the age of 40. A selection committee of club members chose 33 artists from more than 100 applicants to publicly present their pieces of art on the three exhibition days. The selected pieces, covering a wide range of art forms, include paintings, sculptures, installations, photography and new media art. The organizers chose the unusual exhibition title [Uggacchanta] to avoid a pre-categorization of the highly individual works and will provide visitors with clues to its meaning in the exhibition.

As part of the opening ceremony on Friday, May 5 at 5:00pm, three artists will be receive the [Uggacchanta] Art Award 2006. Members of the jury include Fritz Schaumann, parting IUB president and new president of the "Foundation of Arts of the state of North Rhine-Westphalia, Carsten Ahrens, Director of the Neue Museum Weserburg, and Bernd-Artin Wessels, Doyen of the Bremen Consulate Corps. The auction of the [Uggacchanta] artworks on Sunday, May 7 starts at 7.00 p. m.

With this event, as part of the Lions Club International initiative to further art and culture, IUB’s Lions Campus Club aims at supporting specially young artists by providing them with an opportunity to establish themselves in the professional art market. The exhibition was made possible by the financial support of Bernd and Eva Hockemeyer Stiftung, of swb AG and of Norddeutschen Steingut AG.

The artworks can be viewed prior to the exhibition on the website where you can find additional information as well: http://pandora.iu-bremen.de/lions/
