Globalization and the Education Divide

On May 31, 2006, Dr. Letitia Chambers, former U.S. Ambassador to the United Nations General Assembly and Member of the IUB Foundation of America, will give a talk at IUB on “Globalization and the Education Divide”.

[ May 30, 2006]  Our global society is being destabilized by the inequality of educational opportunity. Educational access, equity, quality, and school completion rates vary greatly in countries around the world. An acute teacher shortage threatens progress and the uneven accessibility to technology is creating discrepancies into the haves and have-nots. Does globalization require the redefinition of education basics? Are reading, writing, and arithmetic enough?

Ms Chambers is available for questions after the presentation and during the ensuing reception. The German language lecture marks the opening of the new series “IUB meets Science Leaders”, which will present high-ranking scientists of national an international standing giving insight into major topics or latest developments in science. The lecture is open to the public upon registration.

The lecture is jointly hosted by the Carl Schurz Gesellschaft and Deutsch-Amerikanischer Club Bremen. The public lecture begins at 8.00 p. m. and takes place in the Conference Hall of IUB's Campus Center.
