Every year, the the DAAD (German Academic Exchange Service) honors students for their exceptional student performance and significant social and intercultural commitment. In 2006, IUB student Deyan Vitanov is happy to receive the award with a 1.000 € prize endowment.

[ Sep 01, 2006]  The Admission & Scholarship Committee of International University Bremen (IUB) nominated Deyan Vitanov due to his exceptional academic achievement and his community involvement. “He engages in advancing campus life and considerably contributes to shape the IUB community”, declared the committee.

The 21-year-old student of Integrated Social Sciences assumed the position as President of the Undergraduate Student Goverment already during his first year at IUB. „I really wanted to give a hand and help solve some of the problems that a young voluntary institution such as the Student Government faces“, says Vitanov. „Basically, we have created a solid foundation for an excellent institution that represents the students and is an important factor in formulating the university's future. We became good friends and a very efficient team that can tackle any problem.“

Aside from the student parliament, Vitanov and fellow students founded a Rotaract Club on IUB campus. It is the philosophy of the members of the more than 6.000 Rotaract Cubs worldwid to be active on their own and help others. Vitanov and his friends organized a charity flea market in May 2005. They donated the money to a the Kinderhospiz Löwenherz, a Bremen hospital for terminally ill children in the region.

In June 2007 the Bachelor’s student will receive his diploma – surely, it is going to be another exciting academic year for him.
