The world has come to Bremen: IUB welcomes more than 1,000 Students from 85 Nations

On September 1st 2006 the new academic year officially started at IUB. 364 freshmen from 55 Nations – 234 Bachelor students and 112 students of graduate programs – had already taken the opportunity to get to know their university better during orientation week. A total of 1,007 students will start to live and work on campus this year. For the first time the Germans form the largest group among the new Bachelor students.

[ Sep 01, 2006]  “Those who have chosen IUB have also chosen ‘IUC’: Intercultural Understanding and Communication. More than 1,000 students from 85 nations, a wide range of courses in for example natural sciences, humanities and social sciences – that is a promise for the future we will make reality together”, said an enthusiastic Joachim Treusch, IUB President since July 2006, at the beginning of the new academic year.

For most new students it is IUB’s international environment that – besides the academic program – made them choose the Bremen based university. And it is not only young people from all over the world that are attracted by this: More and more Germans decide to study at IUB. With 50 students (about 25 %), they even form the largest national group of this year’s new Bachelor students.

Also for the first time IUB had set up a workshop about intercultural communication during orientation week. It is aimed to make it easier for the freshmen to adjust to student life as well as IUB’s exciting intercultural community. With the help of videos showing everyday life on campus and different games, the students were also given an impression of the cultural differences in communication they will encounter in the coming years of study.
