Henning Scherf on campus: Students’ question session
with Bremen’s famous former mayor

On September 12, 2006, Bremen's long-time and now former mayor, Henning Scherf, fielded questions from Bremen student fellows of the Foundation of the German Industry on the topic "The Business Location Bremen."

[ Sep 12, 2006]  The context of the question session was set by Scherf’s contribution to the series "Bremen Potentials" at the IUB University Club. On the initiative of the Bremen student group of the Foundation of the German Industry (Die Stiftung der Deutschen Wirtschaft) the series hosts talks by prominent figures from the Bremen public scene on the opportunities and problems facing the Hanseatic town. Scherf main conclusion in his discussion with the students was that - in addition to Bremen’s structural transformation into an important German center of science and science related industry - the harbours of Bremen and Bremerhaven are still a major catalyst for the economic development of the Hanseatic city state since harbour trade is one of the most potent growth markets today.

The Foundation of the German Industry (Die Stiftung der Deutschen Wirtschaft) is one of eleven German foundations supporting extraordinarily talented students by providing them with a rich offering of seminars and programmes for further education, in addition to financial support. The group of the Bremen fellows comprises 16 students in total from all Bremen universities and Oldenburg University, including 8 IUB students. It is mentored by Prof. Dr. Adalbert Wilhelm, IUB Professor of Statistics, as well as Ingo Kramer, the President of the Bremen Enterprise Associations.
