Successful first Terry Fox Run held at IUB

On Sunday October 22, the IUB Lions Campus Club sponsored the first IUB Terrry Fox Run for Cancer Research. 20 participants ran, walked and jogged 2 hours to raise more than 500 euros.

[ Oct 22, 2006]  The Terry Fox Marathon of Hope began in 1981, when Canadian Terry Fox began to run across Canada in the hopes of raising one dollar from every Canadian for Cancer Research.

The tradition of this run, held in Canada every year on September 26, is carried on internationally all over the world. This was the first run held at IUB.

The IUB Lions Campus Club sponsored this event and, after a week long PR campaign, was happy to see a good turnout of students, faculty, staff and community members.

Said Lion's Club Treasurer Warren Laine; "Many people came out to run, offered their pledges per email or on the telephone, or just came by to support. This is what a university is all about - community. We are really very thankful to everyone for helping us realise this event."
