Experts for the utility sector: First graduates of the MBA program "European Utility Management"

On October 20, 2006, IUB celebrated the graduation of the first graduates of the part-time Executive MBA program in European Utility Management. Ten students from five different European utility companies received their certificates.

[ Oct 20, 2006]  Having successfully finished your first education and having worked for ten years, why do you go back to university for an MBA program? Susanne Fabry and Dr. Frank Höpner are among the first graduates of the unique Excecutive Master Program „European Utility Management“. They answered the question „Why“: „Because there is a high demand for well prepared managers and the program is an excellent preparation for upcoming job opportunities.“

Their success proves them right. Both, graduates and their employers, profited by the increased potential. Keynote speaker Prof. Rainer Frank Elsässer, advisor to E.on AG and member of the program’s Advisory Board emphasized, that „a sound knowledge of all activities in the value chain is necessary for the future success of the industry.” Modern management methods as well as flexibility are the prerequisites for leaders in the utility sector.

Over the course of two years, the ten graduates incorporated this flexibility by meeting their job and study requirements. The program combines management, managerial economics as well as a soft skills training sessions on presentation and moderation. In addition to general management knowledge, the curriculum focused on market mechanisms and specific utility industry knowledge. The impact on day-to-day work proved valuable: students introduced innovative ideas and best practices to the company right away. At the same time they could share and exchange their know-how and experiences and address industry concerns during lectures and project discussions. Prof. Dr. Andreas Bausch, Professor of Strategic Management and Controlling, thanked the first class: “The first movers of a program are always special. It was an exceptional experience working with you.“
