Panel discussion about Jacobs University

On Tuesday, February 27, the “Bremer Stadtdialog” will hold the panel discussion “Jacobs University Bremen: Conversion! Integration?” in Speicher XI. Starting at 7 p.m., Christof Steuer, head of the Building Authority Bremen Nord will give an introduction on the subject. How did the project Jacobs University became real?

[ Feb 26, 2007]  The conversion of the of former school of logistics of the German „Bundeswehr“ (military) into a university campus was an ambitious project. Big architectural changes in the design of existing buildings were made, f.e. in the construction of the Campus Center, formerly the officers’ casino, and the Laboratories II and III which were remodeled from former tank maintenance structures.

After the introduction the panel discussion will begin. Participants are:

Prof. Dr. Joachim Treusch, president of Jacobs University, who will present details about the current status and perspectives of Jacobs University Bremen

State Council Dr. Uwe Färber from the senator of economics and harbours, who will give insights into economical and political aspects of the science location

Architect Jürgen Böge who is responsible for the conversion of the campus and who is currenty leading the project of a Science Park next to Jacobs University

Dr. Sunke Herly from the Bremer Zentrum für Baukultur.
