On Sunday, April 1, 2007, the Bremer International Model United Nations (BRIMUN) hosts its fourth conference on the campus of Jacobs University Bremen. At this re-enactment of the United Nations, organized by Jacobs University’s BRIMUN student club, more than 100 participants from 17 universities of ten different nations meet for five days to simulate the activities of various UN committees.

The participants will focus on current topics like the human rights situation in Russia and the possibilities for the UN to achieve peace in Iraq. A further topic of debate is the importance of a free and independent press in the context of transnational conflicts. Among the covening committees are the Security Council, the Commission on Human Rights, and the Assembly General. Prof. Dr. h c. Bernd-Artin Wessels, President of Bremen’s Chamber of Commerce and honorary consul general of Ecuador, will give the opening speech. Special highlights of the conference program are the simulation of the Arab League, a political lobby organization of 22 Arabic states, and the mock-up of an acute international crisis, on which the delegates will informed only when already in session.
