"Bold Visions and Fixed Limits - Can we keep Pace with Technical Progress?"

On Thursday 19, 2007, the interested public is cordially invited to attend the event "Bold Visions and Fixed Limits - Can we keep Pace with Technical Progress?" in the context of the lecture series “Science for everyone”.
Welf Werner, Professor of International Economics and Alexander Lerchl, Professor of Biology, will generally understandable foresight how daily life will take place with the help of mechanization and what consequences come with the engineering progress. The university’s Oriental Dance Club will provide a cultural program for the occasion.

[ Apr 19, 2007]  The world is developing in ever-shorter cycles. Whereas information, goods, and services used to be exchanged face-to-face, shopping now requires only a couple of minutes and a few mouse clicks. We are confronted with technological progress almost on a daily basis. Will the over-stimulation of our senses continue? Can our "archaic" biological construction keep up with this rapid development? In what direction will biological and economic forces drive us in the future? A biologist and an economist invite you on a tour covering 200,000 years of evolution and 2,000 years of economic development, from primates to mass consumers.

The public talk is in German and starts at 7.00 pm in the Conference Room in the Campus Center. Admission is 4 Euro.

Science for Everyone
Science for Everyone is an attractive and innovative mixture of scientific presentations and art exhibitions. Lecture series take on the questions, which each of us faces on the everyday life basis and analyze them from various viewpoints.
Each time two Jacobs University Bremen professors of different schools present their thoughts and ideas on a common topic in a picturesque form in German language. Artists assist by interpreting the given topic from a “sensual” perspective.
