Nobel Laureates meet leading future scientists

From July 1 till July 6, 2007, the 57th Lindau Meeting of Nobel Laureates “Time and Space on the Way to Modernity” takes place in Bremen. At the conference, 18 renowned Nobel Laureates in Medicine from different countries will be meeting 500 of the worlds most talented young scientists. Among them are also two gifted Jacobs University students, Mehmed Hasan and Tomek Jurkowski, who are both doing excellent research in the field of biochemistry.

[ Jul 05, 2007]  The participants will discuss current scientific issues during course of lectures and seminar discussions on a wide range of themes. Furthermore, the young talents will get the chance to exchange with the awarded experts during numerous personal encounters. The main focus will be the up-to-date application of physiological, medical and chemical models and the latest developments in health care. Thereby special attention will be given to the dialogue between natural sciences and the humanities to mark the German "Year of Humanities 2007". Social events like a concert and a boat trip bring the scientific newcomers into personal contact with the Nobel Prize Winners and complete the program of the conference.

Since 1951, each year up to 25 Nobel Prize Winners accept the invitation to a unique meeting on Lake Constance. Young students come from all over the world to listen to the Laureates’ lectures and to engage in discussions with them. Intermediaries from universities and research institutions select participants, often as a reward for the quality of their performance and research work. The young come to Lindau through recommendation by their superiors, deans, and mentors on the basis of strict selection criteria put forth by the Council.
