From July 23 to 27, 2007, a summer academy for high school students, organized by the University of Bremen, the Max Planck Institute, the College of Arts and Jacobs University , will take place. The aim of this academy is to kindle students’ interest not only in natural sciences, but also in sociology and musicology. As part of the program, Jacobs University is offering courses, such as “The Magic of Mathematics” and “Introduction to International Politics”.

[ Jul 24, 2007]  The Natural Sciences course, lead by Michael Thon, deals with the magic of mathematics. Surprising and exciting findings in the field will be examined, as well as secrets and tricks how to use logical argumentation in order to present non-consistent results.

In the International Politics course, Sebastian Elischer and Franziska Deutsch from Jacobs University will shed light on political concepts and theories by applying concrete examples. Topics, such as human rights, security policy and integration will be dealt with and presented from different perspectives in numerous discussions, independent research, and group work projects.
