JACOBS UNIVERSITY BREMEN

Welcome!
Jacobs University salutes new students from all over the world

People, luggage, cars and sign boards everywhere. August 28 is the first day for most of the roundabout 350 Jacobs University fresh men on the campus of their new Alma Mater. Until the official start of term on September 3, 2007, the newcomers will get to know their new territory through a diverse orientation week program. This year about 1100 students coming from 91 nations will study and live at Jacobs University.

[ Aug 28, 2007]
Orientation week at Jacobs University is the opportunity for the newcomers to get their bearings in the new environment that will be much more than a simple place for studies: As all undergraduates live on-campus, it will be their home for the next three years. In addition to numerous offers of “Who? What? Where?” information the new arrivals will meet with their personal mentors amongst the professors, get to know about the special features of their majors and other academic programs at the “Major Fair” or will celebrate their first party with their fellow college mates and their college masters at the “College Social Night”.

A specialty of the “Jacobs O-Week” are the workshops on intercultural communication with the motto “Dive into Diversity”: They will help to prepare the newcomers from all over the world for the unique multicultural campus community: Video spots on every-day life on campus, exercises and role plays aim at creating an awareness for cultural differences in communication and behaviour; student counsellors will be available for advice on every topic regarding the adjustment to the new environment.

The “All University BBQ”, where the new students meet their Bremen host families for the first time, and trips to Bremen down-town will round out the O-Week program.
