JACOBS UNIVERSITY BREMEN

Concert on Campus by Rania: "Sephardic music"

In cooperation with Instituto Cervantes, Jacobs University cordially invites you to the concert "Sephardic music" by Spanish artist Rania on September 6, 7 p.m. Rania will present music arising from the tradition of the Medieval Iberian Peninsula merging with rhythms, melodies and instruments from other cultures.

[ Sep 06, 2007]  Rania remains faithful to the texts – canticles, romances, lullabies, love songs, among others – from the Judaic-Spanish tradition, combining them with melodies and instruments from other cultures of the Mediterranean, the place where Sephardic communities put down roots. Hence the presence of Turkish, Andalusian and Greek sounds and rhythms, among others. Rania thus revives a long-forgotten cultural memory, where Klezmer, Folk and New Age music combine with this ancient music, producing a concert of rare beauty and lyricism.

Rania – Vocals and clarinet
Rafael Álvarez – Accordion, flute and guitar
Juan Conde – Guitar, percussion and bouzouki
