Joachim Treusch receives Best Practice Award 2007
for university fundraising in Germany

On September 14, 2007, Joachim Treusch, President of Jacobs University, received the Best Practice Award 2007 in the field of education from the German Fundraising Association (Deutscher Fundraising Verband). With the award the association recognizes last year’s 200 Mio Euro donation for former IUB from the Jacobs Foundation as the largest donation ever in the history of German fundraising in the field of science and education. The awarding ceremony took place in the Bucerius Law School in Hamburg.

[ Sep 14, 2007]  "The historical donation of the Jacobs Foundation to the former International University Bremen is a groundbreaking success for university fundraising in Germany. The tribute for this is due to Jacobs University itself as well as to its president Joachim Treusch,” says Cornelia Kliment, laudator and chairwoman of the educational section of the German Fundraising Association. “Jacobs University with its forceful and fast-paced realization of its unique concept as international private elite university in Germany with a broad range of majors is the basis for the foundation’s commitment. It is the personal merit of Joachim Treusch, however, that by his performance as the university’s manager and his compelling authenticity he was able to gain Klaus Jacobs trust in the university’s concept, which not only motivated the patron and honorary chairman of the Jacobs Foundation to agree on providing the generous donation but also on giving the family name to the university as lasting support,” Kliment continued.

„The award is a great honor, but of course it is primarily due to Jacobs University,” commented
Joachim Treusch on receiving the distinction. “I am especially happy, that our university seems to have set an example in terms of advancing private university fundraising in Germany as indicated by last months’ multi-million Euro donations for several German universities,” the president adds.

The Best Practice Award in the field of education from the German Fundraising Association, which was awarded fro the second time this year, is considered to be most important indicator of excellence in university fundraising in Germany. The laureate is determined every two years by the university fundraising report of the German Centre for Higher Education Development, the weekly newspaper “Die Zeit”, and the German Fundraising Association. The German Fundraising Association was founded in 1993 in Frankfurt/Main and is the trade organization of fundraisers in Germany. Its educational section was founded in 2003 and since then yearly arranges a symposium on university fundraising.
