Jacobs Students Win 1st Prize at Rubicon International Business Competition

The Jacobs University student team "Leda" won 1st Prize at the recent international business competition "Rubicon International Business Competition" held on Sept 28 & 29 in Iserlohn. Team "Leda", a group of non-business students, successfully competed against other teams of MBA and business students from across Germany. Their first prize is valued at €10,000. The was organised by students of the private business and technology school BiTS.

[ Oct 01, 2007]  Proud winners Dan Andrei Costea, Dora Ionescu, Daniela Dodan and Adrian Costache (the men are 3rd year EECS and the women 3rd year Math) were required to prepare a study regarding an investment opportunity within Deutsche Bahn. The results of this study together with the student's resumes, were the criteria that helped the organizers to pick 20 teams from more than 120 applicants.

Over the two days, teams were required to create a five year business plan which was evaluated by computer, present their plan to a jury where they were confronted with potential problems that might occur during the 5 year simulation. Finally the teams were required to extend the simulation using a specific company case study.

Contest sponsor Grohe is the largest fittings manufacturer in Europe and the largest exporter of bathroom fittings worldwide. The company has six locations worldwide, three locations in Germany, one location in Portugal, one in Thailand and Canada. The first prize includes tickets for the team to Campus Symposium 2008, €3000 in cash and a trip to Portugal, and a visit to the Gorhe Headquarters.
