JACOBS UNIVERSITY BREMEN

Autism Congress on Campus

On October 19 and 20, 400 therapists, scientists, and parents of autistic persons will meet at Jacobs University. The conference is under the patronage of Jacobs University president Joachim Treusch and Bremen’s mayor Jens Böhrnsen. The organisers aim at connecting science and practice. 24 scientists from five countries will give their insights into recent autism research.

[ Oct 17, 2007]  The congress features three main subjects: „Neuropsychological research on autism“, „Early diagnosis and stimulation“ as well as „Asperger’s syndrome / high functioning autism“.

The chairman of the Institute for Research on Autism, Herrmann Cordes, will open the conference on Friday at 10.30 a.m., followed by the welcome addresses of President Joachim Treusch and senator Ingelore Rosenkötter. The conference program will start at 11 a.m. with lectures on differences in behavior and neuronal processes of autistic and normal children. These insights will help to treat disorders in learning and communication.

On Saturday morning, the conference will continue with presentations on innovative concepts of early stimulation. In the afternoon, the focus is on Asperger’s syndrome which effects 9 out of 10.000 people. Affected persons will present their perception of the malfunction and their way of dealing with it in daily life.

The conference is organized by the Institut für Autismusforschung (Institute for Research on Autism) in cooperation with Jacobs University and the Vereinigung für Interdisziplinäre Frühförderung (Assembly for Interdisciplinary Early Stimulation).
