The jury of the competition "365 Landmarks in the Land of Ideas" today made known the distinguished places for the year 2008, where "Germany's Future will be made". Jacobs University was chosen as one of the selected landmarks in the category "Science and Technology".

[ Nov 15, 2007]  The 17-member jury, under the chair of Prof. Martin Roth, General Director of the Dresden State Art Collection, and Prof. Michael Hüther, Director of the Institute for German Economics in Cologne chose the winners who best embody the German spirit of innovation and motivation from over 1,500 entries.
Joachim Treusch, President of Jacobs University: „We are proud, that the distinction as „Landmark in the Land of Ideas" recognizes an educational concept, which radiates far beyond Bremen and strengthens Germany's reputation as an attractive location for excellent research and teaching in the international competition.“

Jacobs University won with a profile which is unique in Europe:

Excellent and International: A Private University attracts smart minds
from around the world to Bremen

"They come from Asia and Australia, from America and of course Europe - at Jacobs University study young people from all five continents. Three quarters of the students come from abroad - no other European university can boast such a uniquely high amount. There are two reasons for this success: First, the university chooses from a large group of international applicants strictly need-blind and based on academic achievement only. Second, the high standards of excellence in research and teaching at the private Bremen university boost the motivation of the students: A professor student ratio of 1 to 10 encourages individual success. International degrees can be obtained in engineering as well as in many disciplines of the humanities and the natural and the social sciences. A quota of 90% of students graduating in the first four years of the universities existence speaks for itself. These graduates have found their way into leading companies around the world."

On September 9, 2008, Jacobs University will present its campus to the public as a "Selected Landmark in the Land of Ideas 2008" under the motto "Elites in a globalized world. "

Germany – Land of Ideas
The initiative »Germany – Land of Ideas« under the patronage of Federal President Horst Köhler was called into existence on the occasion of the 2006 football world series to showcase the unique characteristics of the German people: Ingenuity, passionate creativity and visionary thinking. The term »Landmark« signifies those initiatives and institutions, clubs and organisations, in which innovation and ideas are born. The initiative, supported by the federal government and the Federation of German Industries (BDI) together with leading German companies, chooses to showcase one such »landmark« for each day of the year. Project partner of »Germany – Land of Ideas« for 2008 is the Deutsche Bank. All chosen landmarks will be presented in a book to be published at the beginning of 2008: The collection »365 Ideen aus Deutschland, die in die Zukunft tragen« by the publishing house DuMont will be available in bookstores.
