Continued support for Jacobs University:
Commerzbank Foundation donates 50,000 euros

The Commerzbank Foundation supports Jacobs University in research and teaching in the field of business administration again with 50,000 euros. This was announced on November 30, 2007, by Carl Kau, head of Commerzbank Bremen. The donation is dedicated to the expansion of the business administration library stock and a research symposium on information management and data visualization in spring 2008, amongst other purposes.

[ Nov 30, 2007]  „The Commerzbank Foundation is one of our first patrons to set a mark of confidence by donating the first named chair even before academic activity started at our university and thus proved to be an important ‘first mover’. We are grateful and happy, that the foundation continues its support of our dynamic development,” Joachim Treusch, Jacobs University’s president, commented on the donation. The Commerzbank Fondation announced the establishment of the Commerzbank Chair for Information Management for a period of five years and with an endowment of DM 1.65 Mio as early as December 2000, roughly one year before the university's official opening as International University Bremen.

„The great support Jacobs University has received over the past year – be it the 200-million-euro investment of the Jacobs Foundation or the 10 million euros from the employers’ association Nordmetall – has reaffirmed the Commerzbank Foundation in its continued commitment for Bremen’s unique private university,” says Bremen Commerzbank’s chief, Carl Kau. “We would like to encourage others to follow our example!”

Half of the donation will be used for the conference Statistical Graphics: Data and information visualization in today's multi media society, which will be held at Jacobs University next year, lead-managed by Adalbert Wilhelm, former holder of the now expired Commerzbank chair. ”Professor Wilhelm’s scientific work has been very successful within the scope of the chair,” Kau says. The other half of the donation will be used to support Jacobs University’s library in acquiring additional business administration technical literature and text books, which is especially opportune, as the university recently set a new business administration focus by supplementing its study programs with the new “International Logistics Program”.
