JACOBS UNIVERSITY BREMEN

First EUM Homecoming at Jacobs University

The Executive MBA in European Utility Management was launching its first ever Homecoming at Jacobs University. From 17 to 18 January 2008 students, faculty and alumni will celebrated their reunion with a fireside chat, presentations and a sports tournament.

[ Jan 16, 2008]  Patrick Haren, member of the EUM advisory board, welcomed the 40 participants at a dinner and a fireside chat on Thursday evening. The next day kicked off with the official opening of the event by President Treusch and the Academic Director of the EUM program, Prof. Bausch. Interesting lectures from experts of the utility sector as well as from professors at Jacobs University Bremen filled the rest of the day. The get together was concluded with a sports competition.

Starting with an overview about the latest trends in European Utilities given by Ralph Neher, Managing Director of UBS Germany, the participants focused on the issue how regulation is driving consolidation. Subsequently Thomas Rommel, Professor of literature at Jacobs University, delivered an insight into the classics of the world of literature. After a refreshment, students and alumni together with Franz Wirl, Professor of Energy Economics at the University of Vienna, further discussed the latest developments on the oil market and deal with the question why oil prices jump and fall.
While the morning was filled with presentations by professionals, the afternoon was all about the Executive MBA students and alumni: EUM academics from different classes reported about their experiences during their studies and their work life and exchanged information with their colleagues.

The homecoming is hold to welcome back former participants as well as to offer executive students a platform where they can learn more about their field of study. The event helps students and alumni to keep in touch with friends and to expand their international and professional networks. It is a chance for all alumni to come back to their alma mater, contribute ideas to the EUM faculty and meet with friends from Jacobs University and the area. For those who are currently studying the worldwide unique program the event offers an exciting opportunity to learn more about the experiences of their precursors and receive advices regarding their postgraduate studies.
