JACOBS UNIVERSITY BREMEN

6th Vagina Monologues Campus Performance

The Vagina Monologues will be staged for the 6th time on campus on March 28 and 29 in the Campus Center. This year's performance will celebrate the tenth anniversary of V-Day, the global innitiative to raise awareness of violence against women. All proceeds raised will go to the AWO Frauenhaus Bremen.

[ Mar 20, 2008]  The question of a person's right to safety and dignity transcend gender issues, they are basic human rights. However it still seems necessary, even in the 21st century, to give these issues "better lighting". The Monologues, performed at universities around the world, attempt to do just that.

On March 28 the Vagina Monologues will be performed in the original format made famous by Eve Ensler in 1996 including creative stories from Jacobs University students. On March 29 the Monologues performed will be a compilation written by a variety of international authors entitled "A Monologue, A Memory, A Rant and A Prayer".

This year's performances are being directed by Bettina Ramirez-Lopez and Glenna Mowry and will feature for the first time male performers. "This year's performance will also feature another surprise of which I am not at liberty to mention at this time." said director Ramirez-Lopez.

Tickets for both performances cost 7 euro. Individual performance tickets cost 5 euro. Tickets can be purchased at the Student Service Center, College Offices and in the serveries as well as at the door. Both performances will be held in the east wing of the Campus Center at 20:00.

Donations of clothing for the Frauenhaus will be accepted both nights at the entrance.

On the evening of March 26 a get together with representatives of the AWO Frauenhaus is planned. Welcome will be any Jacobs community member. Please watch your emails for more information.

The Vagina Monologues
The Vagina Monologues is an Obie Award-winning episodic play written by Eve Ensler which ran at the off-Broadway Westside Theatre after a limited run at HERE Arts Center in 1996. Ensler originally starred in the production, playing all the various women who share their views about their vaginas with the audience. The production has been staged internationally, and a television version featuring Ensler was produced by cable TV channel HBO. In 1998, Ensler launched V-Day, a global non profit that has raised over $50 million for women's anti-violence groups through benefits of The Vagina Monologues.
