Jacobs University and the German Philharmonic Chamber Bremen kindly invited all music lovers to their fourth chamber concert “Melodical Spectacle" on April 6th, 2008. Together with the international renowned soprano singer Julie Kaufmann, the Philharmonie-soloists Kilian Herold (clarinet), Elke Schulze-Höckelmann (horn) and Manfred Schmidt (piano) performed a song-matinee offering an innovative mix of romantic and modern pieces. In addition to compositions by Franz Schubert, Max Bruch or Gustav Mahler the audience enjoyed music composed by Bernhard Krol, Matyas Seiber and Luciano Berio.

Concert: "Modern Spectacle"
Time: April 6th, 11 a.m.
Place: Interfaith House, Jacobs-University Bremen-Campus
Tickets: 13 € / 8 €

Soprano, clarinet, horn and piano – this special combination may surprise but it enables the artists to offer an interesting and varied program: With compositions by Franz Schubert and Gustav Mahler the musicians concentrated on the miracles of nature. The solo work, composed by Bernhard Krol who was a horn player himself, composed with his laudation a piece which in spite of his atonal impression never loses its melody. In his “song” Luciano Berio focuses on the drama of emotion and passion in such a brilliant way that British music experts called his creation a “theatre for the ear”.

The American soprano Julie Kaufmann studied in Zurich and Hamburg and has established herself as one of the most sought after lyric sopranos in Europe. In 1991 Julie Kaufmann was awarded the honorary title of Bayerische Kammersängerin. In 1999 she accepted a vocal professorship at the Universität der Künste in Berlin. The soprano works with conductors like Daniel Barenboim, Kurt Masur, Sir Neville Marriner and Wolfgang Sawallisch.
