Success for Jacobs undergraduate students at
international poster competition

For their research poster on "The visual legacy of the Bush admnisitration" Carola Betzold, Friedrich Kauder, and Johannes Loh, all students of Integrated Social Sciences and members of this year’s graduating “Class of 2008”, won the third price in a best-poster-competition with 150 submitted posters. The competition was held at the International Communication Association (ICA) Annual Meeting, May 22-26, 2008 in Montreal, Canada.

[ May 27, 2008]  The three students developed their poster, which was co-authored by Marion Müller, Jacobs Professor of Mass Communication, during an independent studies course on "Visual political communication" in fall 2007. “The award proves that already at undergraduate level Jacobs University’s students are able to succeed internationally in scholarly competitions, usually an “arena” of graduate students and even more senior scientists. The university’s independent study courses, very small study groups tutored intensively by faculty, especially aim at supporting undergraduate research,” comments Prof. Müller on her students’ success. "It was a great experience and we are extremely proud," says Johannes Loh, fellow of the Stiftung der Deutschen Wirtschaft, which sponsored the conference trip with a travel stipend. After graduating next week the three students will continue their graduate education in fall at renowned universities like the London School of Economics and Political Science and Cambridge.
