Alfried Krupp Prize for Young University Teachers goes to Katja Windt

   

Jacobs University professor Katja Windt will receive the Alfried Krupp Prize for Young University Teachers 2008 working in the natural sciences and engineering at German universities. From 39 candidates, the Board of Trustees of the Alfried Krupp von Bohlen und Halbach-Stiftung unanimously chose Dr.-Ing. Katja Windt, Professor of Global Production Logistics. The Alfried Krupp Prize for Young University Teachers includes a one million euro research grant over five years. Since 1986, 29 young professors have been awarded the prize; Katja Windt is the first from the research field of mechanical engineering.

[ Jul 04, 2008]  Katja Windt’s research interest is the realatively young scientific discipline of logistics, with emphasize on global production logistics. Her research focuses on the development of planning and control systems for the production of industrial goods. Her work covers the whole value chain: from supplying raw materials to producing goods through to their delivery.

Before joining Jacobs University in February 2008, Katja Windt (39) was departmental manager of Bremer Institut für Produktion und Logistik, BIBA, (Bremen Institute for Production und Logistics) at Bremen University where she worked on the collaborative research center »Autonomous Logistics«. In 2000 she received her doctorate from the Institut für Fabrikanlagen und Logistik, IFA, (Institute of Production Systems and Logistics). Before she had studied mechanical engineering at Leibniz-Universität Hannover and at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT), USA.
