Joachim Treusch, president of Jacobs University, thanked all parties and donors who are involved in the planning and construction for their commitment and support: “We are happy about the extension of our university and the generous donation from the City of Bremen. The investment is a strong signal that shows us we are successfully moving forward in favour of the further development of Northern Germany as an area of international importance and global competitiveness both in business and science. Therefore I am all the more glad that we can give something back to the city and the townspeople, who supported us since our foundation. I would also like to express my gratitude to the employers’ association NORDMETALL, whose donation in 2007 encouraged us to realize the construction project.”

Ralf Nagel, Senator for economic affairs and ports: “The development of Jacobs University has many facets, which make an impact on the image of the City of Bremen. Beside academic and cultural aspects there are decisive economical reasons that come along with the investments in the university. Therefore the senate decided to finance the construction of the college with public funds. The grant is an investment in the future.”

Ingo Kramer, chairman of the association NORDMETALL, president of NORDVERBUND e. V. and member of the Jacobs University board of governors, underlined the importance of close cooperation between science and economy: “Jacobs University is an important point in the future economic development of the region. Therefore it is important that we continue to support the success story of the university in the future.” The employers’ association METALL UNTERWESER already invested five million euros at the foundation of Jacobs University. In 2007, the employers’ association continued its engagement with a 10 million euro donation. The contribution foremost is intended to enable the 40% increase of students from currently about 1000 to 1400 and to effectively support the innovative university concept.

College IV will be the fourth and largest college on campus of Jacobs University and will host about 270 students from different countries and fields of study. The construction of the fourth college is supported by the federal state government of Bremen that will invest 10 million euros in total over a period of two years. “The donation is intended to be a strong signal in favour of the further development of Northern Germany as an area of international importance and global competitiveness”, Senator Nagel says about the investment.

College IV
College IV will contain 83 double apartments and 100 single apartments. As well as the students’ rooms, the college will include a dining hall, a lounge, a study room, a TV and leisure room, and the apartment for the College Masters. A new structural element will be the solar heater on the top of the house that should deliver a large part of the energy needs. The architects “Böge Lindner” located in the City of Hamburg are in charge of the construction project. They were already awarded for their successful re-development of the former Roland-Kaserne Barracks into the present Jacobs University campus.
