Crossing Borders: International Congress on
Cross-Cultural Psychology at Jacobs University

From July 27 -31, 2008, Jacobs University will be the meeting place for 700 scientists from over 40 countries participating in the 19th Congress of the International Association for Cross-Cultural Psychology (IACCP) with the theme "Crossing Borders: (Cross-) Cultural Psychology as an Interdisciplinary Multi-Method Endeavour". 750 conference contributions will offer a wide spectrum of discussion about the specific influence of different cultures on the human psyche, development and behaviour. A special conference emphasis is the multi-disciplinary as well as multi-methodical orientation of cultural psychology.

[ Jul 24, 2008]
"We are looking forward to an exciting conference with fruitful discussions on many important key issues, among them family, health and economy psychology, multiculturalism and identity, gender roles and happiness perception, learning, language, values and behavior, acculturation or the psychological development of immigrant children", Ulrich Kühnen describes the high diversity of conference topics. The Jacobs Professor of Psychology, together with his colleague Klaus Boehnke, heads the local conference committee. "Jacobs University with its multi-cultural campus community coming from nearly 100 different countries and its transdisciplinary approach in teaching and research is an ideal location for such a conference. Furthermore we are proud to be able to host an international conference of this size for the first time, thus providing a forum for the latest research results in the field of the cultural psychology", Kühnen says.

Among the many renowned conference guests is the evolutionary anthropologist and director of the Max Planck Institute for Evolutionary Anthropology, Michael Tomasello, as well as the noted political scientist Ronald Inglehart, who as director of the "World Values Survey" leads the largest world-wide study on value conceptions in different countries and their changes over time.
