On Sunday, September 21, the opening ceremony for the fifth cohort of the part-time Executive MBA in European Utility Management took place. Fifteen students from eleven different utility companies and four different countries arrived on campus for their first block week. Over two years the executive students will be combining everyday responsibilities in their companies with a demanding and career-oriented program that sets high standards.

Andreas Bausch, Professor of Strategic Management and Controlling, and Gert Brunekreeft, Professor of Energy Economics, welcomed the new class of Executive MBA students on campus.
In his welcome address program director Andreas Bausch emphasized the impact of the master program: “Since the liberalization of the energy market almost ten years ago, there is a continuously increasing need for top-management quality in utility firms. We are fully convinced that the Executive MBA in European Utility Management paves the way for our executive students, enhancing their management knowledge and skills and advancing their careers.“
The Executive MBA program in European Utility Management has been developed by Jacobs University in cooperation with high-level executives from the utility industries. It is designed for applicants intending to extend their knowledge and skills towards business administration and management in the context of the utility industries.
The fifteen students of the new class are of diverse academic backgrounds: Business Administration, Economics, Electrical Engineering, Environmental Engineering, Engineering, and Law. The average working experience of the students is 10 years, their average age is 36 and the internationalization rate within EUM is about 50%. During the first block week courses in management, managerial economics as well as a soft skills training session on presentation and moderation will take place. The block week will also comprise some social activities to build the team spirit right from the start. The activities will include a sightseeing tour of Bremen, guest presentations and a sports contest.
