"German-American Relations: Multifaceted and Closely Bound": U.S. Ambassador William Timken holds public lecture
|
On Tuesday, Oktober 7, the American Ambassador William R. Timken visits Jacobs University on the invitation of the Carl Schurz German American Club and will give a lecture on German-American relations. The campus community and the interested public are welcome! The lecture starts at 8 p. m. in the Conference Hall of the Campus Center. There will be a reception after the talk. On the occasion of his visit Ambassador Timken will also take time to learn more about Jacobs University and tour the campus together with university president Joachim Treusch. [ Oct 02, 2008] In his talk, the ambassador will focus on the on the special importance of the German-American relations, even though globalization is in full swing and bilateral relations seemingly have been replaced by a system of worldwide commodity flows. Northern Germany, with its harbors and container terminals and at the cross-roads between East and West is at the center of this development. However, a closer look at the broader range of economic ties between Germany and the United States shows that the two economies are more deeply integrated than ever before far beyond our important trading relationship. A White Paper, commissioned by Ambassador William R. Timken Jr., compiles substantial facts and figures on a wide range of economic connections – investment, capital flows, trade, people-to-people – and reveals new and sometimes surprising insights into a long and multi-faceted history of commerce and friendship between our two nations.
