Writing without borders: globale° festival for cross border literature

From October 30 to November 5, 2008, Jacobs University organizes the second globale° Festival for cross border literature under the direction of literature professor Immacolata Amodeo. Twelve authors from as many countries, who have found their home in Germany and in the German language, will present their lives and work through moderated discussion at festival locations in Bremen and Bremerhaven. The festival's media partner, under the auspices of Libuše Černá, is Radio Bremen.

[ Oct 17, 2008]  "The young literature festival benefits from the Hanseatic tradition of tolerance and cosmopolitanism", says festival director and Jacobs University literature professor Immacolata Amodeo. "The globale° authors show us how interesting life and work are, regardless of where you live in the world; and that cultural and linguistic borders are only there to be crossed. In their literary texts new aesthetic concepts open up alternative cultural models for discussion. The authors give us a striking example of how literature can present alternative ways of conflict resolution other than rockets, attacks and destruction. The globale° festival is a large and encouraging sign for cultural understanding not only for the exemplary hospitality of the city of Bremen and its' citizens but for all of all," concludes Amodeo.

The globale° writers include award winning authors like Yoko Tawada (Japan), Zsusanna Ghase (Hungary), Franco Biondi (Italy), and the Indian Sujata Bhatt, who lives in Bremen. Young authors like the German-Iranian Sudabeh Mohafez, German-Iraqi Sherko Fatah and the German residing exiled Cuban Carlos Aguilera, who writes about the China.
