Jacobs University hosts career advisors from around the globe

On November 15, 2008, Jacobs University’s Office of Admissions welcomed about twenty guidance counselors of international English-language schools from twelve different countries in Europe, the Middle East, Asia, Africa, and South America. In a three-day visiting program the guests are being introduced to Jacobs academic and residential life programs as well as to the city of Bremen.

[ Nov 17, 2008]  For most of these careers professionals the visit to the Jacobs campus and the meetings with its students, professors and staff members is their first opportunity to get an on-location impression of the quality programs offered at Jacobs University. The guests will attend lectures, visit some of the university’s state-of-the-art laboratory facilities and take campus tours with students, some of whom are former pupils at the international schools represented. The counselors also meet with administration staff to learn about the many services provided – from careers counseling, scholarships, and admissions to life in the residential colleges.

Marie Vivas, Director of Admissions, who was a career counselor herself before joining Jacobs University, believes that this kind of event is one of the best ways to truly convince school officials, who are already acquainted with many universities in the US, UK, Canada and beyond, of the outstanding educational experience Jacobs University can offer. “Having advised secondary school pupils myself for many years while working at private international schools, I know that looking through a university brochure is one thing, but to actually see the campus makes you much more confident in recommending it to your pupils. I used to tour dozens of institutions each year, and it really helped me to envision if a student would benefit from a certain university.”

The Office of Admissions encourages school officials and prospective students, especially if they are already near the Bremen area, to visit the campus. The department also hosts two Open House events each year, the next one taking place on Saturday April 25th.
